Blackwater Holylight is an all-female band from Portland Oregon that has been together since 2016 with their first show in August of that year. Their first album release and European tour was in 2018.
Tonight, the fans are donning their favorite black outfits with a rainbow pallet of hair colors throughout the crowd. Based on the amount of people that showed up, this band has either a large fan base or they are some strong followers in this genre.
While watching this fantastic yet mystic all-girl-band set, I had no idea who they were. I decided to see them as their social media looked interesting and they were playing in my city. They had the best tone of the night. The steady beats, hard guitar, creative keyboard sounds gave a bit of something anybody would like. The vocals had the sound of a dark movie soundtrack that carried you into the theme.
Coming from a metal background, the mixed tempos and drawn-out notes were different for me. They consider this genre Doom Metal or Stoner Music. I consider this band a Musical Experience. A Goth laden grunge band that turns it up to 11.
The musicians had a passion for playing. They can bang their head without missing a note. This is not a “girls club.” They could rock with the best of them. Their cute demeanor only lasted till they start playing. Then they turn into hard rock chicks, and they will kick your ass.
The audience was mesmerized with the music. The bartenders kept the lines under control. Blackwater Holylight did not disappoint.
